Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 1, 2026
BlockOut is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe a distraction blocker should help you focus — not track you.
What Data BlockOut Collects
On your device (never transmitted):
- Your blocklist (apps and websites you've chosen to block)
- Blocking statistics (number of blocks, streaks, timestamps)
- App settings and preferences (theme, settings period schedule)
- Focus session history
None of this data ever leaves your device.
BlockOut does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, and no telemetry of any kind.
Accessibility Service
BlockOut uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect when you open a blocked app or visit a blocked website in a supported browser. This is the core mechanism that makes blocking work.
The Accessibility Service is not used to:
- Collect browsing history
- Read screen content beyond detecting app/URL names
- Store or transmit any data to external servers
- Track your behavior or usage patterns for any purpose other than local blocking statistics
Network Connections
BlockOut makes two types of network requests, both in the full version only:
- Update checks — The app periodically checks
getblockout.app/api/version.jsonto see if a newer version is available. This request contains no personal data. - License validation (premium users only) — When activating a license key, the app sends the key and a device identifier to verify the license. The device identifier is hashed with SHA-256 before storage — we never store the raw device ID. The hash is used solely to enforce device limits and cannot be reversed to identify your device.
The Google Play Lite version makes no network requests at all.
Third-Party Services
BlockOut does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
For premium license purchases, payment is processed by our payment provider. Their privacy policies apply to the payment transaction. BlockOut itself never sees or stores your payment details.
Data Storage
All app data is stored locally on your device using Android's standard SharedPreferences and internal storage. Uninstalling BlockOut removes all associated data.
Children's Privacy
BlockOut does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
